Bio – the long read

Augustus 2014.  A Silver Pockets Full-month. Singer songwriters Edwin Dortland and Erwin Mossel change their acoustic guitar duo RedWine into a band concept. That year, they wrote eight songs in Jayhawks-style which -to their belief- would only really come to life over bass and drums. Fred Langhorst- a local good friend- is by far the most talented selfmade drummer in town at that moment. Bassist Freerk van Oudheusden,  whom Edwin had been performing with since 1986, together with Fred forms the rock solid bottom of RedWine.

The band changes its name into Silver Pockets Full. This is the name the Chinese give to a month holding five weekends. A first demo appears April 2015 and gets positive reviews. Soon keyboard player Erik van der Vlis joins the band. With his progrock roots he brings new, unusual twists to the americanasongs of Edwin and Erwin.

With succesful gigs at Radio Rijnmond and at Zomerterras in Vlaardingen, Silver Pockets Full captured the hearts of their local followers and wants to spread their wings.  With a crowdfundingcampaign with over 180 fans contirbuting the debutalbum ‘Where We’re Coming From’ is made possible. The band records all 12 songs themselves and lets reknown Dutch producer Huub Reijnders (Blof, Alain Clark) mix the album.

The album is released in a sold-out Kroepoekfabriek in Vlaardingen and gets great reviews.  3voor12Rotterdam nominates it for ‘Album of the Year 2016’ and the band kicks-off an long tour through clubs, cafés, festivals, radio shows and living rooms.

End of 2016, Erwin Mossel pulls out from the band for personal reasons. With guitarist Roger Verbeek as his successor, the formula for Silver Pockets Full needs to be re-invented in 2017.  The dual leadvocal based songs make way for the single leadvocals of Edwin Dortland, who from there on solely plays acoustic guitars.

Edwin , from there on composing the songs, gets inspired by artists having the courage to stay very close and personal in their lyrics, like Michael Rosenberg of Passenger, John Mayer or, closer to home, the Dutch band Racoon. The challenge for the band is to musically bring these stories to a higher level while holding on to that personal touch. And after that, convincingly bringing this to a live audience. Silver Pockets Full translated this in rhythmic, layered intense music supporting the rich lyrics. And always with a positive, catchy edge to their songs. Halfway 2017, Silver Pockets Full is a renewed, rock solid band.

It results in numerous gigs at memorable venues and the ultimate selfproduced EP ‘Stay Close’ in 2018. On this album, five strong new songs tell the story of the sacrifice for love. Choices we all make, turning points in our lives, points of no return, or… maybe there will come a day…  These songs, along with other new material, form the backbone of a new tour in 2019.
